Haven Gastropub + Brewery now serving up own beers: ‘Hello World’

Hello World, a pale ale, is what Haven Gastropub +Brewery‘s brewmaster David Larsen and his team has named their first beer ever to be served to the public. The brew is named after a simple programming syntax which people use to learn computer programming. In essence, “Hello, World” interprets the first time a computer program is successful in execution in it’s most basic form. For David, it’s the first time Haven guests will have the chance to taste his brews. He describes the newly brewed pale ale as an easy drinking beer with a nice hop bite. Read More

Seven L.A. chefs combine forces to protest foie gras ban lead by Executive Chef Greg Daniels of Haven Gastropub

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck wrote a letter to restaurant owners convincing them to stop serving foie gras and S.F. restaurants that offered it were met with protesters. However, not everyone is convinced that the ban is justified. TV personality Anthony Bourdain has been adamant about his stance (watch Bourdain’s video) against the ban. With California’s ban beginning on July 1, 2012, a number of L.A. chefs are not ready to give up on the controversial and prized delicacy (goose/duck liver). Animal rights activists who see the force feeding of ducks or geese as inhumane are about to win the war. But for chefs like Greg Daniels of Haven Gastropub, who operates both Orange and Pasadena locations, believe that people should learn more about foie gras. “My response to those that are against foie gras is simple. Don’t be blinded by propaganda,” Greg said in an email statement. Read More

More places to get a taste of Pliny the Younger in Southern California

We previously reported on the release of this highly sought-after beer at the Surly Goat and Verdugo Bar, but don’t you worry, those aren’t the only Southern California craft beer bars that have gotten the lucky allocation of Russian River Brewing Co.’s Pliny the Younger (10.50% ABV). This Triple India Pale Ale, brewed by owner Vinnie Cilurzo once a year is available at their Santa Rosa pub on the first Friday of February for only 14 days. The brewery only forks over a scarce amount of kegs to distinctive bars around the country. Here are four more locations to get a taste of the Younger in L.A. and O.C. Read More

Haven’s Holy Trinity: brewery, craveable cuisine, and groovy gastropub

Haven Gastropub +Brewery may be new to Pasadena, but the second location of this Orange, CA establishment is hardly the new kid on the block. Balancing artfully executed fare with carefully curated craft beer, wine and cocktail selections, Haven exists somewhere between a high-quality, local-centric restaurant and relaxed gastropub. If that wasn’t enough, they will soon brew their own beers right inside the Pasadena premises, due to start serving in late February. Read More

Executive Chef Greg Daniels loves pork. The menu at Haven Gastropub + Brewery in Pasadena features more pork dishes than any other meat. With an advanced notice, you can even order a whole roasted pig with three sides for dinner. But for now we’re here for the Crisp Braised Pork Belly (available during dinner), made with locally sourced pork and a Saison ale reduction, celery root puree, fennel, mâche, apple vinaigrette and topped with dijon mustard microgreens. And of course the microgreens are just for decorating. Read More

Haven Gastropub +Brewery opens second location in Pasadena

Debuting in Orange, CA in 2009, Haven Gastropub was well received by OC Weekly and the Orange County Register. Drinks from pre-Prohibition cocktails and a curated global wine and beer list of over 100+ bottles, 52 taps, four of the brewery’s own special beers, four cask ales, and eight wine varietals served by the keg complimented chef Greg Daniels’ gourmet comfort foods. Now, they bring the concept to Pasadena with the official opening on December 15. 42 De Lacey Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105.
