Taco Asylum: Ghost Chili Pork Taco

Growing up in Southern California, young Greg Daniels loved spicy food. He would accept all sorts of dares from his brother to eat hot peppers and challenge his dad on who can put the most hot sauce on their food. Years later, manning his own restaurant, Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa, CA, it was inherent for Chef Greg, who also operates Haven Gastropub in Orange and Pasadena, to create the Ghost Chili Pork Taco made with a flour tortilla, pork cracklins, and topped with chili threads. He chose pork since it worked best with the ghost pepper, “We thought the pork was the best, since it’s fatty. And fat coats your mouth and makes heat linger longer. Between the fatness and the cracklin on top, you have a good delivery system for heat. I thought the ghost chili has a unique flavor, citrusy and extremely hot,” says Chef Greg. Read More

Golden Road Brewing celebrates its new cask brew with a beer festival

Golden Road Brewing in Atwater Village will be releasing a new cask beer at a benefit and beer festival supporting the Whole Planet Foundation – a Whole Foods Market agency dealing with international poverty issues – on March 11 from 2 – 5 PM. Tickets include a souvenir glass (first 500 guests) and two beer tickets and can be purchased at the door or online for $20 per person (21+). Additional beer tickets can be purchased for $4. Steingarten LA to host a four-course cocktail and food pairing

On Wednesday, February 29, Steingarten in West L.A. will host a cocktail dinner featuring four courses off the menu at 7:30pm. For $55 per person, guests get to chose a different base spirit for their cocktails from three varieties of St. George Gins (Dry Rye, Terrior and Botaniviore) for their first drink.
