LA Weekly‘s 4th annual cuisine celebration, Gold Standard, returns to the Petersen Automotive Museum. Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold has selected his 40 LA restaurants which include Animal, Drago Centro, Little Dom’s, MB Post, Short Order and more for you to sample in one location. The Wine House will also be representing over 30 top-shelf wineries, all pouring their favorite vintages. Event is on March 4, from 1 to 5 PM. The tickets for the four day (February 23 – 26) Coachella Wine Festival in La Qunita, CA held at the Embassy Suites La Quinta Hotel & Spa is now on sale. The event features a golf tournament, two-day grand tasting, two winemaker dinners, and a dessert soiree. On Thursday, January 19 starting at 7 PM, L.A. imbibers will be able to try spirits by San Diego’s Ballast Point at the Surly Goat in West Hollywood. That’s right, they’re not just a craft beer brewery, they also distill their own gin and rum. Craft spirits served that night will be served up in a specialty mug (guests will be able to purchase the “Ballast Point Pirate Skull Tiki Mug”, and get discounted refills during “Tiki Takeover”).
Distiller Yuseff Cherney & Sales Manager Matt Wilson will be onsite with cocktail blends using their barrel-aged 3 Sheets Rum plus the debut of a new vodka. Golden Road Brewing in Atwater Village had their grand opening party last Sunday. To celebrate, they tapped seven new beers: Burning Bush IPA, Either Side of the Hill American strong ale, El Hefe Anejo – a tequila barrel-aged Hefeweizen, Festivus Cinnamon Bitter, Get Up Offa That Brown, Lost its Way IPA, and Rye on the Palate. January 21 from 3 PM – 5 PM in Pasadena
Two Pasadena chefs are teaming up to host “Sustainable Table Interactive Demo and Wine Tasting” at a|k|a Bistro in Pasadena on January 21 from 3 PM – 5 PM. Chef James Lambrinos of a|k|a Bistro will team up with Bistro 45′s Chef Steven Lona and Melissa’s World Variety Produce to show off their culinary skills, along with Santa Barbara wineries Refugio Ranch, Martian Ranch, Costa de Oro and Sanguis.
Chef Steven will demo roasted Brussels sprouts with duck confit, preserved kumquats and sunchoke chips, a salad of organic fennel and potatoes served with a brown butter anisette aioli, and fricasse of white asparagus and arugula served with spicy grapefruit vin and Shishito peppers. Chef James Lambrinos will concoct roasted butternut squash soup with mint yogurt, kabocha squash risotto with a cinnamon spiced crème, grilled purple and white asparagus with truffle vin, grilled fennel with charred tomato vin, and grilled Brussels sprouts with chipotle vin. The cooking demo and wine tasting are $18 per person.
If you can’t get enough of the cooking demo, a five-course “Sustainable Table Wine Dinner” will follow at 5:30 PM for $65 per person. Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association is hosting a two day wine event called “World of Wine,” on March 3 – 4 from 4:30 PM to 10 PM.
